Client Journey Case Study #3

Half Sisters Search

The Journey Begins

This particular case came to me because of my own DNA results.  I had noticed this first cousin on my DNA Results.  But I didn’t pay too much attention to it until she reached out to me.   It seems as though she had been adopted as a young girl by the man her mother was

involved with.  It was not until after he passed away that she became interested in finding her real father.  When she got her DNA results and saw that I was a half-first cousin, she reached out to me to see what I knew.  I told her that I had done genealogy for many years and if she wanted I would look through her results to see what I could find.  She agreed and I began my research.

The Results are in ...

I searched, and found that she had a match  to the son of my 2nd cousin.  That told me right then and there that she was in fact the daughter of one of my uncles.  This actually explained a long-time family secret, at least as far as I was concerned.  In 1956, this particular uncle’s wife had left the family home abruptly.  We all wondered what caused it, but as I found out, this girl was born in 1956.  None of the individuals involved were still living, so she was unable to meet her father or her half siblings, but I did exchange pictures with her and the resemblance was remarkable.  But that wasn’t the end of the story …

She had a half-sister and for some odd reason she was on my list as a DNA match as well.  She knew with no uncertainty that her father was NOT the same man as the subject’s father.  That could only mean one thing, the mother must also be related to our family.  The research is still in process and I hope I will be able to update soon.
